I have been traveling a lot this summer, and while traveling I’m writing notes for futrue blogs, notes for a book, info for our workshops and webinars. We have a think tank of people that work with our company to make it a great place to help people realize that we all are in need of growth. While always looking for new talents in our company, we found a great treasure in our Jessi Lynn. I can call her and she is my main editor, but more importantly she is my daughter. If you read the blogs and material that sounds like a professional wrote it, she went through it first. If it sounds like it’s uncut and raw it was posted before she was made our editor. While helping her with some personal things yesterday due to her week-long sickness. I started talking about ideas that I hate. She sat at her computer and wrote the following. Which we present to you to better your growth.
“So I have this copy of Time Magazine Special Edition from August that celebrates Mother Theresa on the 100th anniversary of the day she was born. Since I haven’t been sleeping, I was reading it last night and they began to talk about Mother Theresa’s epiphany on Christ’s last words on the cross of ‘I thirst’. The thing that stuck out the most to me in her revelation of ‘I Thirst,’ was that Mother Theresa believed that when Christ said this, he was also referencing his thirst for human love. Now, when you read in the bible the description of Christ saying ‘I Thirst’ on the cross, it suggests that he was in agony (clearly since he was being crucified and all). So Mother Theresa implies that Christ (and God) agonizingly thirst for our love, for your love. The ruler and creator of the universe agonizingly, thirsts for YOUR love. You are that valuable and that amazing that ‘The One’ craves your love.
With that being stated, it means that well, you are pretty freaking awesome and you do know it. You know how I know you know? Because you get upset when someone — a co-worker, significant other, sibling, parent, friend, loved one, anyone — insults you, calls you a loser, or a failure, you get upset with them for doing so, and that means that somewhere deep down, you believe that you are not a loser or a failure. That’s because ‘The One’ who created the Universe thirsts for your love. So why in the world do you continue to call yourself a loser or failure?
In the book “Eat, Pray, Love” Elizabeth Gilbert talks at one point about how she was running through a lobby in NYC and caught a brief glimpse of her reflection in a mirror on the other side of the lobby. For a second she began to wave at her reflection thinking, ‘Hey, that’s my friend.’ That moment was something she had to keep reminding herself of, that at one point in time she recognized herself as a friend.
You are your own best friend. You should love yourself more than anyone else in the world should because you are that amazing, and so you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself. You shouldn’t keep beating yourself up over and over again! Because The Lord of the Universe thirsts for your love, and you don’t let your friends treat you that way, and at one point in time you recognized yourself as a friend! So recognize yourself as a friend now, treat yourself as you want to be treated.
This brings the question around though, how do you stop beating yourself up and start treating yourself as the best friend you have? The same way you change anything in your life: by breaking the habit. Starting right now, tell yourself how awesome you are, right now encourage yourself, right now and every day start the new habit of loving yourself. Only then will you be able to love others correctly, only then will you succeed in life, and only then will you be able to satisfy God’s thirst for your love. Because the only way you’ll be able to satisfy God’s thirst for your love is when you will finally know what your love is — when you experience it yourself.”
