Inspire Yourself With Belief Now

Hey, it’s Thursday already and our week has made it past the hump. I know you now believe you will see the weekend. To start off today I thought of a way to build a parable-type story of how we handle this topic in our life of changing our mind.

Let’s start this story of a couple, Mark and Wendy we will call them. They got a dream to build their own home. It’s a great dream in our world today; many couples take this route. They designed it themselves, after a lot of time searching found the perfect lot to build the house on, then started the process of having the land checked out to see if they could build the house they wanted on it. Next they obtained the permits to build on the land, had the utilities put in underground and prepared the land for the building of the house. Finally they had the foundation poured. It only took them a year from the start of the dream to this point. If you’ve ever built a home you know that this could take longer, and in some cases it could take years just to get from designing it to being able to afford it.

The month finally came where they were to have a truck deliver the first load of wood to start building the house. Now, imagine it all goes downhill; the first truck is in a wreck on the way to make the delivery. So they have to get another load started. The second truck is stolen with everything on it so they have to start again. The third truck was loaded to take off towards their land in the morning. Overnight a fire breaks out in the yard where the truck is parked and all their supplies are once again destroyed.

Mark says “That’s it. I give up.” He goes out and jumps on the bulldozer that is parked on the land and runs over the beautifully poured foundation, destroying the hard work and walks away saying “I guess our house in not meant to be. We will never have our own home; we are going to live in this small duplex for life.”

I know many of you are saying, “How stupid. That is such a dumb story. No one would ever do something like that.” Well, now let’s look at our personal goals and dreams. Imagine you have a dream of owning a business of your own. One year into having paying customers, you have a customer ask for their money back because they’re unhappy and say “I’m never going to do business with you.” So you close your doors and walk away from it all. Or let’s say you have a partner pass due to a car accident, so you give up and leave the dream you have built. Maybe its years of working with a child who just seems to not want to do anything with the opportunities given.

In life many people get so far, and for someone looking in from outside things look to be going so good, but on the inside they have a true flaw that no one knows about. They do not believe. When I started this business, when I started our other company, on the inside during the times of nothing moving it was hard, but the thing that I and my partner needed was to believe. Just like the quote yesterday from Thomas Edison. Failure comes to those who gave up just short of success. You believe enough to start whatever venture you are on. Silly things like the truck not getting there with the supplies four times are just a stumbling block on the way.

Many times I talk about setbacks, hard times, falling down. The partnership that ended with lawsuits. Building the business only to have the partner ask for you to buy them out. Life is full of these. You must work past them. The biggest thing that keeps you back is the fear inside that you do not believe you will succeed.

So what do we do to make sure these meltdowns never happen? You need to inspire yourself to believe even when it seems that it never will. Think of all the tough things in our story above that could have happened before building the foundation. I met a man in Lubbock, Texas recently, named Shawn who told me of a time where he found a great piece of land. While doing the research on it he found out it would cost him three times the value of the land to find out if he could even build on it. So I know there are tough things we must go through in life, even in building a house.

Start yourself on a motivation program that does nothing but build your belief level. If you have a spouse or a partner have them work with you to keep you going. The greatest story I hear of a couple is they each tell how they each gave up on the relationship, but were glad it was never on the same day. I know my partner supports me in what I’m doing. I support her. One of the things she does is work for Weight Watchers here in Dallas. People who have gone through weight issues in life are the people who need a great support team to help them reach their goals. Bottom line, it’s part of a team that could always keep you up.

Build yourself up through writing affirmations like I spoke of earlier this week, write down those goals and always be reading them. Listen to music that keeps you motivated. Having a dream and goals to reach it is a great thing, but without belief in them happening it does not matter what you want out of life. No belief…no dream.
