What’s Your Purpose?

Good Friday morning to you. If you’ve been reading my blog this week, you know we have been on a road trip on our motorcycles. My last post topic was “You Need a Break.” Well, after I wrote that post I took a break from my writing duties for a day. I was going to write another blog to post yesterday but while making one of our stops Wednesday, I got the sad news that everyone was talking about, about Steve Jobs’ death. I, too, wanted to make a great post with a life lesson about what Steve Jobs has done for us in this world. But I chose to take a break and just be thankful that I could hear the news on a device he created.

Many years ago as a child growing up, I heard in our church the statement only our lives will soon be past, and that only what’s done for Christ will last. I thought about that as I heard of another great person who has died. I’m not going to be bold, as some preachers have in my past, and suggest that he could have done so much more for God if he had used his life as a preacher. If you grew up in certain churches, you heard that message and know what I’m talking about.

I want you to think when your life is past what lasting impression will be left on this world because you were here. I’m not talking about your kids, or how you coached the Little League team. I want to know, if you died today, what could we say was your life’s greatest achievement? There is not a right or a wrong answer to this question; it’s your answer and you have to make that happen on this earth. And this isn’t about discounting the importance of the contributions you make to your kids’ lives or saying that coaching the Little League team isn’t important.

Many people this week will go to their graves having spent the lives they had trying to be happy all the time. That won’t happen. Some will have spent the time working to make more money, always wanting more because what they had was not enough. Some will have chased meaningless ends to get new things that did not bring them one bit of joy.

Take this time to reflect and see what will bring you joy. I believe God gives us each a dream and that is to be used to make this world better. I hope that you not only find your dream but that you start working today to achieve it. After all, we could use another great one; we just lost one.

I’m Tim Gillette, the Rocker Life Coach. It’s time for you to live the life you always wanted, to love what you do and those people you share life with. Make today the day you start taking the steps needed to find and achieve your RockStar dream in this world.
