Occupy Life

I started my day sitting in a Starbucks, listening to all the usual sales meetings and people going about business. As I watch these people in different Starbucks and other coffee shops when I’m out, it amazes me how many people meet up with someone whom they’ve never met before. When you walk in and sit down at a table but leave some space on the other side of your table, with the chair empty, it is likely someone will join you at some point. The two questions that I get asked most often in these circumstances are these: 1. “Are you Harry?” Or Don, or Joe or whoever they’re looking to meet there? These are people who are looking for their next sale but aren’t sure what the person looks like they are coming to meet. And 2. “Are you using that chair?” This is because they need an extra chair for someone else that is coming to meet them.

Today while watching this daily sales go-round, I was also reading about a close friend of mine who had a motorcycle wreck on his way home the other night. Putting the two things together gave me greater certainty about the theme we have been going through this week which focuses on the key to what is going on in our lives. It is also the key reason I created my New You program. We are all stuck in something we want to get out of. We all need to start living again. It’s time to live the life you have been given; to share your passion with the world; to love where you are at, and enjoy the ride as you plan and progress forward in growth to live your dreams.

I wish that I had kept count of how many people have told me how much they hate their jobs, how they would give up all the crap of life if they could get free from this job they hate so much. I hear that but then see people who demand so many things to stay in a job they hate. Or who start protests to bring that job back after it has left the US for a foreign country that has workers willing to work for less than 1/3 of what workers here demand. If you do not like what you are doing, find your true passion. Set a plan in action to make that dream come true. Understand it won’t happen overnight, but start a plan to get there. Learn to be a giving person who then works the job they have to the best of his or her abilities.

We used to have a saying, “I am willing to do what others won’t today, so tomorrow I will be able to live a life like others won’t.” This means to get a dream, you work at the job you may hate and don’t complain about the hours, the pay, but use your spare time to work as well to build your dream, to build your future.

Learn to be a giving person in life. When you want to get ahead in life, the old laws of sowing and reaping take effect. You have to be willing to give to receive; you have to be willing to receive the gifts God gives you to have things to give to others. I know that sounds strange, but in life you will be given great opportunities by receiving a gift that was given to you. Then you use that gift to build a life of giving to others. We have all heard when we get on an airplane, if the cabin looses pressure a mask will fall down and, before helping others, put on and secure your own mask; then help others. Well in life if you are dead you cannot help those who need your help. So learn the secrets to giving and receiving.

Today in closing I wanted to give you this idea: with all the Occupy Protests going on around our country right now, if you do not like where you have ended up in our financial crisis, it’s time to take control of your life. I have mentioned before how a friend, Nate, back in 2009 told us at a breakfast meeting that the only person who controls your economy is you. If you don’t have enough money, work more. If you can’t afford to live on the money you make cut back. Those are two choices. So occupy yourself and start a creation of your great world. It’s time for you to make a new and better plan to go forward. Growth with a plan, give and receive. Your life, your time.

I’m Tim Gillette, the Rocker Life Coach., It’s time for you to live the life you always dreamed of, to love what you do and those you share your life with. Occupy your own world and build a better one to become the RockStar in your world.
